Ask the Dentist

Q: My five year old son snores loudly.  Should I be concerned?

A: Snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea.  Children who are obese and who habitually snore are very likely to have sleep apnea syndrome.
Children with large tonsils may have sleep apnea.

Children with sleep apnea tend to be hyperactive, aggressive, or rebellious, to not pay attention and to not be alert.  They tend to have academic problems and may have symptoms of attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder.
