Dr. Marilyn Calvo, owner of Smile Studio LA, is one of only 326 members in the world to achieve American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AA CD) Accreditation status. Her practice is built on the principle of providing the highest quality care available, while focusing on both long-term health and aesthetics. Dr. Calvo is passionate about changing lives and increasing self-esteem in the patients she has helped through her popular Smile Makeovers, Porcelain Veneers and Dental Implants. Her practice also focuses on preventative dental care and treating sleep apnea patients. Dr. Calvo has worked in the dental field for more than 30 years, and her work has been published in the highly acclaimed Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, which sets the standard for the field of cosmetic dentistry.

Why did you choose this career?
“I learned the value and importance of being an entrepreneur and making your dreams come true from my dear grandmother, who was a role model for me when it came to pursuing dreams with hard work and a vision. At age 5, I already knew I wanted to be a doctor! My mother and father placed a high value on education and encouraged me to attend school and college.”

What’s most rewarding about your work?
“One of the most difficult experiences I had to overcome as a teen and young woman, which would later be my biggest gift in life, was my own cosmetic challenge. It was at this stage in my life that my passion was ignited to become cosmetic dentist, transforming my patients’ lives by helping them regain their confidence and self-esteem, much like I experienced. I also receive tremendous rewards from volunteering at the world-famous Spear Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona, mentoring young dentists and helping battered woman through the AA CD Charitable Foundation.”

What do you like to do for fun, when you’re not at work?
“At this stage in my life, being a fairly new grandparent, I love being with my husband and my family, especially my two sweet grandchildren— both under the age of 31/2. It’s such a wonderful joy to spend time with them. You will usually find me cooking for my family on weekends, entertaining and taking my grandchildren out to explore life!”
